Family & Youth Roundtable Awareness Week Activities

Year: 2012

Good things are happening in San Diego for Awareness Day. High school students from our Workforce, Education and Training program have been working with the Family & Youth Roundtable this school year, they are working on three different projects which will culminate in presentations to their peers on May 9th, Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day. The projects include: a social and print media outreach campaign to raise awareness about youth living with Autism, a series of documentaries which contain personal interviews from youth dealing with depression and PTSD, and a skit on the effects of bullying, which includes a training packet ready for dissemination to school-aged audiences. The youth were not only able to gain significant knowledge of children’s mental health and the stigmas that often surrounds it, but they worked to market and share what they learned with their peers both in-person and online, raising awareness in a manner that is relevant to youth.
