You’re invited to join the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) at the National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day (Awareness Day) press briefing at the University of the District of Columbia Community College in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, May 7.

During the briefing, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will present chart-dominating singer, songwriter, and actress Demi Lovato with an award for her work as a mentor to young adults with mental health and substance use challenges. Together with SAMHSA Administrator Pamela S. Hyde, they will focus on the importance of social connectedness-a sense of community-in enhancing resilience in young adults with mental health and substance use challenges at home, school, work, and in accessing health care services.

Entry to the briefing is free and seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  Follow the exit signs for UDC’s campus. Continue straight, heading north down Connecticut Avenue toward Windom Place. Make a left at Potbelly Sandwich Shop onto Windom Place. The auditorium will be straight ahead.
• Parking: Turn off of Connecticut Avenue onto Van Ness Street and turn into the parking garage. It is easiest to access the auditorium from Level B. The garage parking charges per hour. Parking costs $8.00 for 1 to 3 hours.
