House recommends 9% cut to SAMHSA

July 19, 2012

The Children’s Mental Health Network is quite concerned about the recommended severe  cuts to the HHS 2013 Budget proposed by the House. The bill funds the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) at $3.15 billion, which is $324 million less than in 2012 (a 9% reduction). According to Linda Rosenberg of the National Council, these proposed cuts come on top of over $4 billion in state-level cuts to mental health services that have occurred over the course of the recession.

The budget detail in terms of line items such as CMHI will probably be out in a week or so. We will keep you posted.
