Gun Control: Congress failed; It’s up to the states…

April 22, 2013

Last week was difficult for so many with the developments in the gun control debate that this country has itself embroiled in. Network faithful Olga Acosta Price offers a ray of sunshine in an otherwise gloomy picture by reminding us that there is no excuse for getting discouraged. State legislatures are stepping up to the plate – and they need all the help we can provide. Here are a few examples:

  • In Washington state, a new gun-control advocacy group is planning a 2014 initiative to expand background checks – Seattle Times
  • In New York, the state Assembly plus city and county governments are passing resolutions to name June “Gun Violence Awareness Month.”
  • And…
Just three weeks ago, the state of Maryland adopted tough gun control legislation. The state has adopted legislation that will fingerprint gun buyers, require classroom training and target practice as well as pass a background check prior to obtaining a license to purchase a firearm. Only hunting rifles and shotguns are exempt from the law. Baltimore Sun

Let’s stay focused on the bright spots. They’re the ones that will point the way to more successes.

Okay Olga, you got it. Thanks for the reminder to all of us!
