It is with sadness that I share the news of the passing of Chris Marshall. Chris was a long-time member of the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health. Along with his mother, Pam Marshall, Chris would make the trek each year to the Federation’s annual conference in Washington, DC.
Like so many of the “children” of the Federation, I had the pure joy of watching Chris grow up through the lens of my role as conference coordinator for the Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health annual conference. Every year, I would look forward to seeing Chris and his million-megawatt smile. But more important, was his indomitable spirit that continually propelled him forward.
From the first time I met Chris, I was instantly captivated by his amazing smile and warm spirit. With his mom at his side, when we would see each other, she would always say, “Chris, there is Mr. Scott. Say hi to Mr. Scott.” And then we would always spend a few moments together, no matter how busy I was. No deadline could compete with the opportunity to share a moment of pure joy with this amazing human being. Chris had that gift.
Chris was an important reminder to me of why we in the children’s mental health advocacy community do what we do. His unfiltered love and joy always lifted me up and gave me renewed energy to keep fighting the good fight for children and families.
Join me in celebrating the life of Chris Marshall.
