Call President Obama and Speaker Boehner in the next 48 hours

December 14, 2012

As you may have heard from the media, the President and congressional leaders still do NOT have a deal to avoid going over the fiscal cliff. This means if a revised deficit reduction deal is not achieved before the holidays, a number of tax breaks will expire and extreme across-the-board spending cuts (i.e. sequestration) will be implemented on January 2, 2013.

Okay Network faithful, time to stop what you are doing and take action.

  • First call President Obama at (202) 456-1111 or send a message and then call call Speaker Boehner at (202) 225-0600 or send a message. Here is the what we are encouraging you to communicate:

“I am a  children’s mental health supporter and rely on direct and indirect funding from federal agencies to improve services for children and families and make our communities stronger. I am deeply concerned about the state of the ongoing deficit reduction negotiations. As you continue your negotiations, I ask you to recognize two important facts:

    1) Funding for non-defense discretionary programs (NDD) have already been cut by $1 trillion since FY 2010.

    2) This funding should NOT be cut further as part of any new deficit reduction plan to avoid going over the “fiscal cliff.”

I urge you to negotiate a balanced approach to deficit reduction that does not include further cuts to NDD programs and that reflects a commitment to investing in the nation’s children and families.”
