1st ever Children’s Mental Health Awareness Conference & Luncheon -Erie County, NY

To celebrate May as Mental Health Month, the Family Voices Network held their first ever Children’s Mental Health Awareness Conference and Luncheon on May 8th, 2009. It started at 7:30am with a Continental Breakfast and ended with lunch in the afternoon. The morning was geared toward educational activity with an afternoon dedicated to rejoicing.
During the conference, the 2nd Annual Youth Recognition awards were distributed. 80 youth were nominated and recognized during the luncheon. The Most Valuable Voices Awards recognize those in the community who work to improve the lives of youth and children and were also administered. Workshops and speaker LeDerick Home educated the attendees.
Family Voices Network of Erie County is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (SAMHSA) in effort to fulfill the action steps set forth in the Federal Action Agenda. Their 2009 theme is “Tying It All Together: Public Policy + Mental Health = How does it Work?” Family Voices Network believes it takes an community to raise youth. Encouraging the use of personalized resources, supports, and services, Family Voices Network’s goal is “to keep families together and child and youth at home, in school and living in their own community where they belong.”
