The month of August is important for Network faithful. President Obama has signed the Sequestration Transparency Act which requires his administration to detail just how painful the sequester's cut will be and has a deadline of September 6. "Congress must act to avoid these devastating cuts & ask wealthiest to pay fair share," White House deputy press secretary Amy Brundage wrote on Twitter, announcing the president's signature. The bill requires the President to detail the specifics about the $1.2 trillion in cuts to domestic and defense programs that will take place at the start of 2013 if Congress is unable to agree on another deficit-reduction plan before the end of the year.
We will let you know as soon as the document is released and will provide a detailed analysis of proposed cuts to HHS programs that impact children and youth with serious emotional challenges and their families. HHS has already given fair warning that they are looking at a 7.8% reduction across the board.
Of course, all this could be avoided if Congress would come together on a deficit reduction plan, but that is looking less and less likely. Stay tuned. With the unveiling expected to occur around Labor Day it's gonna be a heck of a home stretch campaign season for both parties when folks see what's on the table.
