The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools at George Washington University recently released a study that explores sustainable funding mechanisms that can help mental health providers and education leaders ensure that all children have access to school mental health programs. Although tremendous progress has been made in increasing awareness of the importance of behavioral and emotional health in schools, financing is commonly cited as the primary challenge.
With a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CHHCS looked at three programs in Pennsylvania, Washington, DC and Minnesota and found that while there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach, there are some shared common elements that lead to success in sustaining school mental health programs.
