Dr. David Satcher will be the featured speaker for the opening plenary session for the 27th Annual Children's Mental Health Research & Policy Conference on Monday, March 3rd, 2014. Dr. Satcher’s presentation will discuss strategic steps in shaping an effective approach to addressing disparities in healthcare policies, services, and approaches in this era of healthcare reform. This valuable information will enhance our ability to shape a national discussion as it relates to meeting the behavioral health needs of children and families.

Dr. David Satcher was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1998 as the 16th Surgeon General of the United States. Serving under both Democratic and Republican parties, Dr. Satcher tackled issues that had not previously been addressed at the national level, including mental health, sexual health and obesity. He also led the Department’s efforts to eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health. Read more.
