Members of Congress Seeking Ways to Move Mental Health Bills Forward

0 Comments | Posted

movingslowlyAccording to a story in The Hill, lawmakers are considering adding Senators Cassidy and Murphy's mental health bill to the work of a conference committee focused on opioid legislation. While just an "idea" at this point, the strategy has possibilities, especially considering the fact that the opioid crisis will dominate the discussion (and funding) of any mental health bill moving forward.

There is also talk of adding an expansion of the mental health bill from Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) to the opioid conference committee. The expansion would give funding for urgent care mental health clinics to more states.

It is going to be a most interesting summer for mental health advocates!
