HHS and DOJ Host Listening Session With Youth Who Have an Incarcerated Parent
Great Morning Zen post from Melissa Radcliffe – “When Ann Adalist-Estrin, Director of the National Resource Center on Children and Families of the Incarcerated, e-mailed us this spring and asked if we’d like to invite a young person to participate in two listening sessions hosted by the US Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Justice in late June in DC, we jumped at the opportunity. Of course we’d like to invite someone! And we had just the person in mind.”

Seeking Young Adults to Participate in the Transition Age Youth Psychotherapy Experiences (TYPE) study!
The team at the Transitions RTC is looking to recruit young adults with mental health condition from across the United States into the TYPE Research Study which aims to understand the experiences, both good and bad, of young adults (ages 18-25) who are receiving outpatient therapy. Check it out!

The Hidden Harm of Antidepressants 
Antidepressants are some of the most commonly prescribed medications out there. More than one out of 10 Americans over age 12—roughly 11 percent—take these drugs, according to a 2011 report by the National Center for Health Statistics. And yet, recent reports have revealed that important data about the safety of these drugs—especially their risks for children and adolescents—has been withheld from the medical community and the public.

Everett Appointed Chief Medical Officer of SAMHSA
APA President-Elect Anita Everett, M.D. has been named the Chief Medical Officer at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). She is expected to begin her duties at SAMHSA on September 5.

As the 2016 election season enters high gear, Nonprofit VOTE has released a comprehensive online guide for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations on nonpartisan ways to promote voting and engage candidates in the 2016 election. Called Nonprofits, Voting and Elections, the online guide reviews the prohibition on partisan political activity. It provides topic by topic advice on how nonprofits and their staff can promote voter registration, conduct voter education, talk to candidates, work on ballot measures and encourage the people they serve to participate and vote. This election cycle, more than any in recent memory, we all need to get involved!

Brave Buddies is an intensive, group behavioral treatment program designed to help children with selective mutism to speak in school and other public places.
