Greetings faithful readers. Here is what's new on the Children's Mental Health Network website this week. Important information about grants, model initiatives and some really great conferences and webinars you will not want to miss. It's graduation week for families at the Network so this is a "slimmer" version of Friday Update (I will pause for sighs of relief). Empty nest here we come!
Black Barbershop Health Outreach Program in San Francisco
What a wonderful model for encouraging good health among African-American men. We need healthy dads as much as we do healthy children. Check it out here. System of Care communities take note - great program to consider adopting.
Get the Scoop on the Expansion Grants!
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Mental Health Services will sponsor a Webinar on May 30, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, to provide technical assistance on the preparation of applications for the Implementation Cooperative Agreements for Expansion of the Comprehensive Community Mental Health Services for Children and their Families Program. 5th Annual Fatherhood Solution Conference
The Network is a huge fan of the Children's Institute and Project Fatherhood. If you get a chance, be sure to attend the 5th Annual Fatherhood Solution Conference: Strengthening Relationships Between Fathers and Their Children - June 15, 2012. This is a great opportunity to join nationally recognized experts and your colleagues for a daylong exploration of the most important issues related to fatherhood. Details here.
Georgetown Training Institutes, July 25 - 29, 2012 - Seriously Amazing Youth Track
Hey, you know that the Training Institutes has an amazing specialized track for youth leaders, ages 13-22, who are ready to be empowered with the information and skills to change their community, state, and nation, right? Oh man, if you don't, you need to check it out. This is a great opportunity to expand the knowledge and skills of the next generation of children's mental health leaders. And goodness knows, we are going to need them! Share the information and share the love...

National Wraparound Initiative Orientation Webinar
Okay, wraparound aficionados - here is your chance to learn more about the National Wraparound Initiative (NWI) and get involved. If you are a faithful follower of the Network you know we are quite concerned about the potential for "watered down" versions of wraparound to rule the day in the new age of health care reform. If you want to be a part of ensuring high quality and consistent wraparound implementation, then get involved with the NWI. Details here.
Support for Families in Need of Assistance for Child's Health Care Treatments
The United Healthcare Children's Foundation is seeking grant applications from families in need of financial assistance to help pay for their child's health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered, by their commercial health insurance plan. Qualifying families can receive up to $5,000 to help pay for medical services and equipment such as physical, occupational and speech therapy, counseling services, surgeries, prescriptions, wheelchairs, orthotics, eyeglasses and hearing aids. Once again, Georgetown University is offering it's popular Leadership Academy, August 20-23, 2012 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Leadership Academy is an intensive course of study comprised of 2.5 months of preparatory activities and a four-day residential learning experience specifically designed for individuals who are champions for children, youth, and families, who want to develop their leadership skills.
