Native American tribes face devastating sequestration impact on mental health services

If you think sequestration is just an abstract concept, think again. NPR has a great “listen” that focuses on mental health budget cuts for Native American tribes. The recent across-the-board federal budget cuts, known as the sequestration came with a 5 percent reduction in funding for mental health services, including suicide prevention. For Native Americans, who have the dubious distinction of a suicide rate that is four times the national average, this is unacceptable.
