California Senate President pro Tem Steinberg proposes Prop 63 as a model to Biden Commission

As Network faithful know, Vice President Joe Biden has been charged by President Barack Obama with leading a commission that, in January, will report back with specific recommendations, including legislation, on how to reduce the possibility of future mass shootings like the one last week in Newtown, Conn. that took 26 lives, including 20 elementary school children. In addition to addressing gun control in the President's speech to the nation after the shooting, he opened the door to looking for improvements to the nations mental health system.

California Senate President pro Tem and Prop 63 Author Darrell Steinberg has called on U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden to adopt Prop 63 full service partnerships, prevention, and early intervention services as the national model for mental health and calls on the federal government to match state investment in these services dollar for dollar. Prop 63 abandons the traditional "Crisis-First" model by investing twenty percent of revenues into prevention and early intervention.
